Having just completed a sport/fitness portfolio shoot which among other location also included Simon Fraser University campus and two of its athletes, it definitely came by surprise when SportsNet Magazine commissioned me to shoot a big editorial featuring SFU athletes. Once, Steve Fonyo was the most famous person in Canada. Man of the Year. Athlete of the Year. Nobody wants to be like Steve Fonyo today. There were the serial drunk-driving convictions, followed by theft, assault, and jail time. Cheque kiting. Credit card and insurance fraud. Cocaine and alcohol abuse. Claims of repentance and rehabilitation, followed by more crimes, followed by more repentance until no one much cared whether he repented or not.
