I was commissioned by VanMag to shoot a portrait of Doc. Sue Burgess while visiting her patients in downtown eastside. It was a unique experience to see a reality that we generally ignore. She goes in some of the least safe places on her own, EVERYDAY. As sweet and gentle as she might look, Sue is one of the toughest, most hardcore badasses that I’ve ever met.
A huge thanks to Sue and especially the kindness of her patients who despite their sad and painful condition allowed me to invade their privacy and witness their stories. Shot for Vancouver Magazine.
