That’s right. 3 years. That’s what happens when you go for a year with your lovely family in Baja California and you start becoming friend with a very respectable Mexican family man who happens to be a drug lord. The photographs below come from a session I shot for Vancouver Magazine about the terrible story of Pavel Kulisek who spent 3 years in a Mexican jail before his wife and some diplomat eventually managed to get him out as he had committed absolutely no crime, except being the in wrong place at the wrong time. Maybe a reminder of how good we have it. Shot forVancouver Magazine.

Pavel and I spent around 60 minutes shooting and almost two hours talking as I was absolutely fascinated by his story. One of the saddest things about the whole thing it’s that you could feel that something has changed in him, and that his life would never be the same again. It was heartbreaking being told that after all the effort and time his wife and family had punt into rescuing him, there would always be a darkness in him and that we was highly struggling to get over everything  that had happened to him in the last three and half years.
