Leonard Schein, owner of the Festival Cinemas shot for the Georgia Straightcover. Unfortunately the Ridge theatre is closing down, another important piece of Vancouver culture vanishes in the name of “more condos”, like the Waldorf in East Van.
I still remember last year when I first moved to Vancouver, walking under the rain, on a week day, the weather being cold and miserable, on my way to the Ridge to watch Hunter S. Thompson’s Rum Diary. The theatre was empty and looking back now it was one of the best movie experiences I’ve ever had. It’s such a shame, especially considering that more condos is the last thing that Vancouver really needs..
